Was watching Double Chen's Would You Risk Brain Injury for Millions of Dollars video that brings me the idea to blog about. I mean I am not a sport mania, but I occasionally watch sports and used to do some when I was younger.
Growing up, I've never really involved deeply in any kind of sports. My Dad was a motorcycle racer when he was young. But he quit cause mom were having me, and he had an accident on some prelim tournament which was pretty bad he had to spent some time hospitalized to rethinking on his priorities in life, so he choose to quit extreme sport and be a father. He still plays soccer from time to time though, a huge fan of watching boxing matches on TV, a good swimmer and an excellent chess player. While my mom would occasionally joined volleyball team for fun, she loves to play cards more. So yeah, my family weren't really into sports.
During my school days, PE is the least favorite subject for me, especially after I hit puberty cause its sweaty and tiring and mostly done outdoor (we have a lot of sunny days and most school in Indonesia does not have a gym) either in the main field which located in the center of the school where everybody else in the classroom can see and it's embarrassing OR at the public field nearby which is more embarrassing cause everybody on the street can see.
When I was in elementary, I did joined the gymnastic club because I was so skinny and apparently quite flexible. Well, we only had 3 sport clubs; basketball, badminton and gymnastic. The other two were outdoor activity obviously, so I rather had my exercise indoors, away from preying eyes. Anyway, we mostly did floor exercise though due to lack of proper equipment. I did a lot of rolls, flips, headstands ... splits :|

During PE class, since I went to all-girls Catholic school, we played Rounders (which was a form or baseball kind of sport), Handball (the mild version of volleyball with less smash and more giggling) and a lot of Athletic .. well mostly just running and jumping into a sandbox.
In middle school, I joined ... believe it or not ... Pencak Silat club! Despite a lot of nerve-wrecking intense disagreements my parents threw at me, I did it anyway, cause you know being a teenager and all. It was actually my first rebellion toward my parents. My second rebellion was quitting art club but I quit because I really sucks at drawing anything. My parents were so furious I had to persuade them by joining Choir club.
So, Pencak Silat is a form of traditional martial art, which were rough, tough, often left me covered with bruises and cuts, sprained joints, a couple of broken bones but I hella loved it! It was a branch of Tunggal Hati Seminari - Tunggal Hati Maria (THS-THM) under instructors named, Mas Pudi and Mas Eko. But when I graduated middle school, I had to graduate from THS-THM too. I kinda wished I keep up with pencak silat though, its still one of the coolest sport for me.

During high school, PE got more simple...I think. We don't really have a sport clubs. During PE, the boys will either do football or basketball and the girls do volleyball. This was the moment I realized that I'm no good with any sports involving balls and running. I threw a lot of on-period-excuses and headache-due-to-low-blood-pressure-excuses for 3 years and I dont think I missed much anyway~ hehe...
When I went to college, I had no obligation to do sport anymore. Although my campus does have some cool sport clubs, from Tennis, Taekwondo, Capoeira up to Bridge (its seriously listed under "Sport") but another form of art took my heart on the 3rd day of campus orientation time. I did watched and cheered for my friends or other random teams during sport tournaments but definitely refused to involve in one.
With so little exposure I had from any kind of sports, here are some list of sports that I compiled solely based on my personal opinion and preferences :
Sports I Wished I Knew How To :
1. Figure Skating
Sports I Wished I Knew How To :
1. Figure Skating

I LOVED to watch Figure Skating!! With all the music, choreography, fancy dresses are just so beautiful and sexy at the same time.
2. Synchronized Swimming
![]() |
I mean seriously, it's already hard to syncing choreographed dance on the ground, imagine doing it while in water? It's INSANE yet beautiful !!
3. Wushu

AWESOME A.F ... 'nuff said!
It is a fun activity to do with your friends and probably win some small bets. It could get competitive .. but is that mean it should be considered as "sport" ?
Sports I'm Scared of :
1. American Football
![]() |
I do realize, for the athlete and fans, there are more than just brute force of thumping, jumping, and hurdling on this sport. A deeper meaning beyond broken bones and higher chances on getting brain injury etc, but for a commoner like me, its too brutal. *gulps*
2. Ice Hockey
![]() |
At first glance, this sport might look harmless, but trust me, there will be blood!
3. Boxing
![]() |
Becoming someone else's punching bag surely brings harm to your body, but throwing so much powerful punches also could put strains to a boxer's body. Hate me whatever you want, but I'm telling you, boxing is a suicidal sport.
Overly Expensive Sports :
1. Archery
![]() |
One of the oldest sport with a seemingly primordial equipment, this sport is hella expensive!
2. Equestrian Sports
![]() |
I totally understand why this sport could and should be one of the expensive sports.
3. Shooting Sport
![]() |
Well, a gun itself is already pricey.
I'm Confused Why Its Even Considered As Sport :
1. Bridge
1. Bridge

I guess it could be considered as the brain-games like chess. Is that mean those card gamblers could call themselves an "athlete" ?
2. Pool/ Billiards
![]() |
3. Curling
![]() |
Well tbh, everything about this "sport" is weird but they're still play it at Olympics level...

This Activity Should Be A Sport :
Parkour
![]() |
From a little to none knowledge I have on what define a sport, in my perspective Parkour definitely should be one. It has the competitive side, needed a lot of physical practice, is a full-body and brain corelation and comes with a lot of risks. I mean, wouldn't that sort of things come to your mind when you heard the word "sport" ?
Well.... that's pretty much all I can blab about sports. If anyone could enlighten me on why those 3 sports are considered as sport, please do so. And If anyone agree/disagree with Parkour should be consider as sport, share me your opinion.
