My Parents Be Like....

Watching the 9 Types of Asian Parents video certainly reminds me of my own parents. As Mike and Dan pointed out in their video, not all Asian or parents in general is the same but for the fun they made a list of may I say, "uber-generalization" of the typical Asian parents.

For more complete visualization on the types, I highly suggest you to watch the video linked above, but here is the list of the 9 types of Asian Parents and what parents are like.

The 9 types of Asian Parents according to Off the Great Wall :
1. The strict one
2. The overprotective one
3. Tiger mom
4. The guilt-tripper
5. The bragger
6. The gossip mom
7. The cooking mama
8. The gamer
9. The cool parents

Although most of parents would be perceived as a single type by their children or outsiders, but I think parents' personality/ method-of-raising-kids could also be the combination of more than 2 treats.

From all the treats mentioned above, one thing that reminds me a lot of my Dad is he's definitely a guilt-tripper. The memory that struck me the most is when I asked for a new shoes to wear for school eventhough the shoes I have now is still in a good shape, my Dad would throw off the story of how he only had 1 pair of shoes that he wore from 1st grade to 6th grade, and it was so heavy and uncomfortable to wear cause it was made from crude rubber. When I asked him how can he wears the same shoes for 6 years? Didn't your feet grow bigger? Well...he dodged it by saying, "When I first had it, it was for 5th grader's size. It was heavy, stiff and smells awful. But it was new! Fresh from the factory! And I didn't get many new stuffs, so I wear it proudly even when it become thin and had holes everywhere."
And that sad story always gets me everytime (!._.)

While my Mom ... well, she leans more toward the overprotective one. Being the first daughter, I got all the overprotectiveness. I could never came home even 5 minutes late from school, who I can be friends with, even what kind of snacks I can/ can not buy at school.

All in all, I totally understand (now) why my parents do what they did to me is for my own safety and well-being. With all the boundaries and expectations placed upon me, I turned out ... not too shabby :d

So, what your parents be like?
